About a Bite Analysis

If your teeth are not fitting together properly, oral issues may occur including damage to your teeth and gum, as well as pain in the jaw joint. Dr. Jeffrey Allred performs a bite analysis when a patient is experiencing a bad bite or if they have an occlusion disorder. Using state-of-the-art technology, Dr. Allred can measure the stability and the level of force exerted by each tooth. He can also evaluate how all parts of the mouth and jaw are working together and what further issues may be causing an incorrect or painful bite. Our goal at Allred Dental in San Marcos, CA is to both diagnose the problem and provide sufficient treatment options to prevent future issues from occurring.

What to Expect

Our team will do their best to provide you with an in-depth analysis of your bite using the modern technology at Allred Dental. We use TekScan occlusal analysis to evaluate the force and pressure of your bite, as well as its alignment. You may also expect to have diagnostic digital x-rays and imaging, a 3D scan, a bite study, and a physical examination of your jaw and mouth at your bite analysis appointment. After the analysis, Dr. Allred may suggest treatment options to correct the misaligned bite. One common treatment is BOTOX® that can help to relax the muscles in the jaw to prevent teeth grinding and jaw clenching. A custom night guard may also be recommended to protect the teeth and jaws.

Other COnsiderations

You may seek a bite analysis to see what type of dysfunction or disorder of the jaw exists. Here are some of the most common signs:

  • Worn, cracked, broken teeth

  • Inappropriately loose teeth
  • Stiff or inflamed muscles in the jaw
  • Receding gumlines

  • Clicking or popping in the jaw while chewing, talking, or yawning

insurance coverage

The cost of your bite analysis will be dependent on what type of imaging is required. During your private consultation with Dr. Allred, the fee schedule will be discussed for each screening and imaging that needs to be performed. If you have insurance coverage, some of the analysis maybe be covered in part or whole. Our patient coordinator will be happy to discuss this with you at your appointment.
