About Digital X-rays
At Allred Dental of San Marcos, CA, it is our goal to detect dental problems early so that less invasive treatment options can be the norm for patients. That is why Dr. Jeffrey Allred uses digital x-rays to see beyond the exterior of the teeth and gums to find dental problems, such as tooth decay and cavities, bone loss, tooth impaction, cysts, and abscesses. With digital x-rays, Dr. Allred can study your teeth and the soft tissues and bones of your mouth to evaluate what treatment options may be available to you.
"I had such a wonderful experience at Allred dental. Dr. Allred and his staff are super friendly and attentive they made me feel totally relaxed which is pretty rare for being at a dentist office. I was actually a little nervous going in for my procedure because I was scared it was going to be painful. In the contrary I felt no pain and they were finished before I knew it. It was great!! I would highly recommend Allred dental to anyone needing dental services."- C.C. / Google / Aug 21, 2017
"I used to be so scared of the dentist until I started seeing Dr. Allred. Everyone is so caring and they legitimately care about you as a patient and a friend. They care so much, they take your blood pressure when you sit in the chair! Thanks to Dr. Allred and his staff, I found out that I had extremely high blood pressure which was causing daily migraines and other health problems! Who knew I would find that out at the dentist? They care, they understand you financial situations, and they do everything then can to make you feel at home. Thumbs up!"- S.S. / Facebook / Nov 16, 2018

What to Expect
After your teeth are cleaned and polished, we will take you to the room dedicated to our radiographs. Getting digital x-rays at Allred Dental is simple and fast. Even our youngest patients know that getting x-rays at our office is nothing to worry about during their appointments. The entire x-ray session usually takes about 5 – 10 minutes. Once taken, the x-rays are uploaded and can be examined during your appointment in a matter of minutes.
Most patients will have a series of digital x-rays taken, including:
- Panoramic view of the entire mouth — all teeth, the jaws, and sinuses
- Periapical views to show the entire length of a tooth
- Bite-wing images of the lower and upper back teeth
- Occlusal view (images of the bite), if needed
We still protect our patients from radiation exposure even though the digital x-ray produces much less radiation than traditional x-rays of the past. Our patients are asked to wear a lead apron as an added precaution. Patients, or mothers of our patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, should take extra care while around this room and make sure to tell one of our team members if you are with child. We want to protect all of our patients from radiation exposure, no matter how small.
Many dental insurance plans cover your digital x-rays as a part of preventative dentistry. Keep in mind that digital x-rays at our office vary in price, and can range from $25 – $150 for one image or in the range of $250 for a full-mouth series. Our financial coordinator can contact your insurance to determine any out-of-pocket costs.
