About Digital X-rays
At Allred Dental of San Marcos, CA, it is our goal to detect dental problems early so that less invasive treatment options can be the norm for patients. That is why Dr. Jeffrey Allred uses digital x-rays to see beyond the exterior of the teeth and gums to find dental problems, such as tooth decay and cavities, bone loss, tooth impaction, cysts, and abscesses. With digital x-rays, Dr. Allred can study your teeth and the soft tissues and bones of your mouth to evaluate what treatment options may be available to you.
"I had such a wonderful experience at Allred dental. Dr. Allred and his staff are super friendly and attentive they made me feel totally relaxed which is pretty rare for being at a dentist office. I was actually a little nervous going in for my procedure because I was scared it was going to be painful. In the contrary I felt no pain and they were finished before I knew it. It was great!! I would highly recommend Allred dental to anyone needing dental services."- C.C. / Google / Aug 21, 2017

"I have not seen a better dentist since 2002! I have had some pretty bad experiences in the past but Dr. Allred turned that all around today. He and the staff (front desk and assisstants included) are all super calm, friendly, and reassuring. I felt like I was a family member.I am pretty sure I asked an annoying amount of questions and I always got a detailed answer and never felt rushed. Literally the most thourough dentist I've ever had. I have been pretty scared of going to the dentist for nearly 15 years but Dr. Allred completely turn my fear around. I cant say enough good things. "I've had a lot of experience with dentists and Dr. Allred is the best I've been to. He is gentle, professional and does beautiful work. He also has what seems to me to be the latest in equipment. If you're a little neurotic (or a lot as I am) about dental visits, then this is the place for you. His staff without exception are great. They are very helpful and knowledgable. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Dr. Allred to my family and friends."- B. / Google / Jun 21, 2017
What to Expect
After your teeth are cleaned and polished, we will take you to the room dedicated to our radiographs. Getting digital x-rays at Allred Dental is simple and fast. Even our youngest patients know that getting x-rays at our office is nothing to worry about during their appointments. The entire x-ray session usually takes about 5 – 10 minutes. Once taken, the x-rays are uploaded and can be examined during your appointment in a matter of minutes.
Most patients will have a series of digital x-rays taken, including:
- Panoramic view of the entire mouth — all teeth, the jaws, and sinuses
- Periapical views to show the entire length of a tooth
- Bite-wing images of the lower and upper back teeth
- Occlusal view (images of the bite), if needed
We still protect our patients from radiation exposure even though the digital x-ray produces much less radiation than traditional x-rays of the past. Our patients are asked to wear a lead apron as an added precaution. Patients, or mothers of our patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, should take extra care while around this room and make sure to tell one of our team members if you are with child. We want to protect all of our patients from radiation exposure, no matter how small.
Many dental insurance plans cover your digital x-rays as a part of preventative dentistry. Keep in mind that digital x-rays at our office vary in price, and can range from $25 – $150 for one image or in the range of $250 for a full-mouth series. Our financial coordinator can contact your insurance to determine any out-of-pocket costs.
