About Dental Crowns
In San Marcos, CA, Dr. Jeffrey Allred uses dental crowns to repair and protect broken teeth, diminish discoloration, and fix areas of decay. Crowns can be made from metal, porcelain, or ceramic and they fit tightly over the tooth where it needs to be filled or protected. They can also be used to cover discoloration and add support to a dental bridge. If properly cared for, a crown can be a long-lasting solution to a dental problem and can be matched to blend naturally with other teeth. At Allred Dental, we create custom-made dental crowns at our in-house laboratory to speed up the process for our patients.
"I had such a wonderful experience at Allred dental. Dr. Allred and his staff are super friendly and attentive they made me feel totally relaxed which is pretty rare for being at a dentist office. I was actually a little nervous going in for my procedure because I was scared it was going to be painful. In the contrary I felt no pain and they were finished before I knew it. It was great!! I would highly recommend Allred dental to anyone needing dental services."- C.C. / Google / Aug 21, 2017

"I've had a lot of experience with dentists and Dr. Allred is the best I've been to. He is gentle, professional and does beautiful work. He also has what seems to me to be the latest in equipment. If you're a little neurotic (or a lot as I am) about dental visits, then this is the place for you. His staff without exception are great. They are very helpful and knowledgable. What to Expect
To create a custom crown, the dentist first prepares the tooth by removing a thin layer of enamel, then taking digital x-rays and impressions of the tooth that will be sent to our in-house dental laboratory. A temporary crown can be placed on the tooth while the custom crown is being made. When the permanent crown is ready, Dr. Allred will carefully set the crown on the tooth. He may also tweak and adjust for a more comfortable fit.
Some patients may experience temporary discomfort or tooth sensitivity, but most patients do not usually have any pain after a crown is placed. With proper home care and regular dental cleanings and exams, a crown may last for 10 – 40 years depending on the material of the crown. In some cases, a cavity or infection may develop under the tooth and may require a root canal or other procedure.
If the crown is considered medically necessary, dental insurance may cover some or most of the cost, so our office will check with the patient’s insurance to determine their coverage and out-of-pocket costs. Estimated fees, payment options, and financing available through our office can be discussed during your consultation.
